There are a lot of things I love about Tulsa. I love the small-town atmosphere with big city dreams. Having been born and raised in Tulsa, I think it’s great being able to go somewhere and always run into someone you know.
While coming up with this month’s stories, I was brainstorming some ideas while cruising on Facebook. My favorite page is Humans of New York. If you haven’t heard of it, check it out. A photographer walks around New York City and takes pictures of random people and they share their life stories, personal struggles, inspirational thoughts, etc. I thought it would be great to highlight some local people who have made their marks in Tulsa.
My research for this edition reminded me of how great Tulsa truly is. A lot of history, movies and famous people have put our town on the map: the Tulsa Race Riots in 1921, the movie The Outsiders was filmed in Tulsa in 1983, jazz musician and former professional basketball player Wayman Tisdale, country musician Roy Clark makes Tulsa his home, the list goes on and on.
I’m also reminded of all the memories Tulsa has given me. My very first concert was Hanson at the Mabee Center in 1998. I met my best friend while working in Tulsa. Tulsa is also where I met my husband. This town has a lot of fond memories for me, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Another great thing about Tulsa is the sunsets are spectacular.
There really is no place like home.
